"It is one of the biggest blessings of the universe that we all get a fresh start every 24 hours. Every single morning is a new opportunity to make your life a little brighter than it was yesterday. Not only that, but we have the power to brighten the lives of the people all around us.
Every single time that someone greets my dad and asks how he is doing, he always says without fail that it is the best day of his life. This simple attempt to be positive works wonders. Even though he repeats this happy greeting with no selfish intentions, he constantly benefits from them. Happy receptors of the comment immediately perk up with a big smile and occasionally decide to give him something in return, including everything from nice handshakes to free stays at hotels. My dad’s willingness to embrace every new day as a gift and share his happiness with other people is exactly what seizing each day is all about. I think
Another incredibly imperative part of each new day is the release of yesterday. You can’t let whatever sad things happened yesterday tarnish the pure, fresh start that is so gracefully provided for you today. Whatever happened has happened and the decisions that you made are now set in stone. There is no need to look back over your shoulder to suffer again in mistakes of the past. Yesterday is yesterday. Today is today. You will never have today again, so be completely and absolutely here in this moment in time.
One of my favorite quotes is “What you do today is important because you’re exchanging a day of your life for it.” It always makes me think deeply about what I’m spending my time on. Think about all of the exciting, impactful, or productive things that you could be doing today. Don’t get me wrong, the occasional lazy day is nice, but how can one possibly have a fresh day laid out in front of him or her and simply waste it? Time really is a precious thing and considering how quickly days can come and go we mustn’t let opportune moments pass us by while we’re dwelling on the past or staring at our phones.
What excites me most about every passing day is the crazy amount of potential that each one holds. Today could be the day that you meet your future husband or your future employer. You could help someone in a desperate situation. You could meet a wonderful new best friend. You could fall in love. Cheesy, I know, but so possible. There’s an infinite amount of situations that you may find yourself in today. Please don’t let any of them slip by out of apathy or laziness.
Life is short; we all know it. So take time to quietly appreciate each day and think about the unlimited possibilities that lie within the next 24 hours or so. Deeply inhale the freshness of each day. Bask in the warmth of possibilities all around. And relax in the knowledge of a new tomorrow coming."
